Entries in Humble Beginnings (1)

The Food, the Whole Food and Nothing but the Food

Last Christmas (no, I'm not quoting WHAM!) my husband gave me a BLANK kitchen diary. It's beautiful. It's bound in brown canvas and has pastel drawings of seasonal fruit and veg at the beginning of each month. It lists food events in Britain throughout the year. It describes things which I'm still not quite sure what are. But most importantly, it was blank. As virginal as a new day, mine for the making and one of the best presents. Ever.

I started writing in it as soon as we got back to London, from our Christmas holidays at my parents' in France. And although I did not write every day (far from it), I have written about the food which I thought was noteworthy. Be it new recipes, new creations or new restaurants (I even seem to remember a particularly ranting (non-foodie related)  bit about all the Valentines Day non-sense.) There are, as is fitting, also quite a few stains (as is the case with all my cookbooks). The highest praise Husband would give me upon tasting my food would be 'Make sure to write this one down in your diary!'.

Then in May 2006, I started The Madeleines Project (which is currently on hold while I create a new and improved design for it. Watch this space!). And thus I caught the Blog Bug. What can I say? I'm a Blog Junkie, and suddenly, writing in blue pen and restricting myself to 6 lines per day was just not cutting it anymore. Where would I put all the photos I now take of my food? Where could I give my prose wings (whether it soars to the sky or not is an entirely different matter)?

So the logical next step was to take my beloved Kitchen Diary online and share my daily food adventures, be they good or bad, inspirational or bland. Actually, I think I won't bother writing about the bland / foul-tasting ones, unless they are spectacularly dismal!

I'll also write about food experiences of all sorts, be it a new product, new store, new eating-place, but by all means also my favourite, true-and-trusted, desert island ingredients, eateries and shopping experiences.

So thank you for stopping by, please do so again. There's always space for one more at our table!

Oh, and this is the proverbial kitchen:

(The only problem now is: how do I transfer the stains to my blog?)
